Author Head Shots: Why You Need My Friend Teresa

Lyn Hawks · May 29, 2019 · Leave a Comment

Teresa Porter of My Friend Teresa Studios made it all perfect. Author head shots went swimmingly, despite me and all my neuroses.

[Here’s me talking myself off a ledge in a post.]

Teresa got me laughing. That’s what great photographers do. They relax your humming brain, they soothe your jumpy soul, they get you out of your judgmental head.

I was also feeling good because Paul Miller of Funky Monkey Hair Studio had my hair on point. Easier to smile when someone gets your head straight!

Durham, NC also came through with glorious spring weather, so I wasn’t sweating through my duds or makeup.

And best of all, Mom was with me!

I do show up daily, and I have a new mantra. *Write into the relationships. Let people push on one another.* This has replaced STOP EXPLAINING; START CHASING. (Can you tell my character goal was kind of muddy? All caps hollering at myself does help.) The latest advice is about trusting the people I’ve created, whom I’ve gotten to know over a year, and understand their psychology and their interdependencies. Each person has their own goal and arc. They aren’t pawns to be moved in a game of plot. They are humans moving through the beats I’ve planned and making discoveries along the way.

So excited for next week, and about the lesson on So excited for next week, and about the lesson on rhetoric and persuasive speech I just posted to Teachers Pay Teachers. It’s also a chance to explore media objectivity and bias as well as American history and women in politics. Content analysis and close reading, cooperative learning, Socratic discussion, and then multiple choice questions that help students get ready for standardized tests. All things to all people! If you know of an English or History teacher needing a lesson for next week, please point them to Success Story on Teachers Pay Teachers. On this historic occasion, there’s so much to celebrate!
